This is an entry-level position leading eventually to a career assisting clients with demands of managing energy price risk.

Areas of Responsibility

A successful Energy Commodities Broker will:

  • communicate with clients and prospects and may expect to spend a good deal of time on the telephone
  • maintain lead lists and client lists, in our CRM (HubSpot)
  • assist in developing financial structures for risk management strategies
  • participate in order generation and execution
  • assist in researching fundamental economic data related to energy

Primary Objectives

Powerhouse is a full-service energy brokerage.  It relies on a regular stream of new clients and new services for its existing clients to maintain its growth. This employee’s contribution to that growth will be readily identifiable.  The successful candidate will be evaluated using the following criteria:

  • Passing the Series 3 Exam within three months of hire
  • Ability to engage with prospects and current customers over the phone and in person
  • Accurate entry of trades (after Series 3 is earned)
  • Willingness and success with other tasks assigned

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

This position requires an energetic, highly motivated person.  Powerhouse is an open trading office, and our floor plan is open by design.  As a result, we are seeking an individual that is comfortable and can focus in chaotic environments.

Education

The employee will possess a college degree. Although not essential, specialization in economics, finance, international relations, mathematics, or business subjects is highly desirable, but not required.               

The employee will hold the Series 3, General Commodities License or will obtain certification within three months of employment.  Powerhouse will bear the costs of training and licensure. The National Futures Association (NFA) requires an individual to successfully complete the Series 3 in order to become qualified to trade commodity futures and options contracts.

Demand of the Job

Futures brokers have a unique opportunity to bring some degree of planning and control to clients.  A broker must be able to react to events that are outside of his/her control that nonetheless impact clients’ businesses.  A broker must also be able to work with clients who have changing business objectives.  To successfully navigate this environment, a candidate will possess

  • An attention to detail
  • The ability to focus in chaotic environment
  • The capacity to drive on-going and complex work tasks to completion
  • Comfort on the phone with clients AND prospects (sometimes cold calls)
  • An intellectual curiosity about movements in commodities and financial markets
  • The desire to work closely with team members

Work Environment

Powerhouse is an active, highly interactive brokerage.  Our employees sit in a common bullpen office environment allowing for the easy sharing of information and awareness of client trades and issues.  As a result, we do not offer a remote work option.  We do require employees to be vaccinated against COVID-19.

Compensation

The employee will be paid a regular salary and may expect bonus depending on the performance of the enterprise and their own effort. The Company offers health insurance and participates in paying for it.  In addition to current compensation, Powerhouse offers a pension plan that a successful candidate will be eligible for on their first anniversary.
